In addition to the radial seal designs covered in the Spring Energized and Rotary Lip Seal sections, Tamshell also offers Face Seal and Rod Seal designs.
Face Seals are used in axial sealing applications versus radial sealing applications as applied to the seals described previously. Face Seals can be designed using all of the same seal materials and designs as shown for radial seal applications. Face Seals can be designed using Rotary Lip Seal or Spring Energized Seal design options and technology.
Guide Rings are polymer rings used to prevent metal to metal contact and provide support for rod or piston applications. They are designed to seat in a groove backed by an o-ring for expansion. Ring Seals use the same engineering polymers as used in the radial and axial seals offered by Tamshell, as well as the same o-ring materials offered with the Rotary Lip Seal design.
O-ring Energized Seals can be configured like many of the spring energized radial or axial seals, only utilizing a properly sized o-ring in place of the spring. This might be a preferred option in applications where metals cannot be used or where cleanliness is required and encapsulants cannot be used. Seals and o-ring material options are the same as those offered in our Rotary Lip and Spring Energized Seal products.
Backing Rings are used in applications where seal support is limited and system pressure is extreme. Backing rings are designed to provide simple or interlocking interface with the protected seal and to provide a minimal extrusion gap. Backing rings can be made from a variety of metal and polymer choices depending on the application needs.
